"THE MERCHANT"
Profile of Millard (Mickey) Drexler, CEO of J.Crew,
former CEO of Ann Taylor and the Gap.
New Yorker, THE STYLE ISSUE
article by Nick Paumgarten
[excerpt]
Drexler owns three houses on Long Island [among others] including Eothen, Andy Warhol's former estate in Montauk, which Mickey bought in 2007 for just under thirty million dollars. "The process of creating and imagining is as much fun as the visiting and staying," Drexler says... "You know what it is? Growing up (in the Bronx) I was always wanting a nice place to live. I don't want to sound like a schmuck. I don't buy art. I'd rather buy a beautiful location or a beautiful site, than buy art. A beautiful home is like owning a beautiful painting, except you can live in it."J.Galligan
